New York, New York - Cyril Boynes Jr, Director, International Affairs of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) announces the Marian Anderson String Quartet will receive the coveted CORE award for Arts & Culture at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers in New York City for their outstanding contributions to classical music.

Cyril Boynes Jr. resoundingly expressed that the Marian Anderson String Quartet will play an integral role in CORE’s January 16, 2006 annual celebration of the national holiday in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s honor. The event is officially known as CORE’s Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Ambassadorial Reception and Awards Celebration. A highlight will be the Marian Anderson String Quartet performance/tribute to slain CORE activists James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner.

For over a decade the Marian Anderson String Quartet has brought inspiration and hope to every segment of American society, with performance venues ranging from the concert stage to the soup kitchens and from presidential inaugurals to juvenile correctional facilities. The Marian Anderson String Quartet continues to uphold its mission: To create new and diverse audiences for the field of chamber music.  They are currently the Ensemble in Residence at Texas A&M University and Quartet in Residence with the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra in Bryan/College Station, TX.
